There are 12 different positions/notches around the hosels circumference. Each notch creates a different angle/position of the head.
There is a small dark arrow on the hosel to show where you need to set the hosel position to have that setting take effect. The LOWER position creates a lower launching ball flight and it also opens the face – more fade to the right for a R/H golfer.
The HIGHER setting creates a higher launching ball flight and closes the angle of the face – more draw to the left for a R/H golfer. The UPRT LIE (upright) setting allows for the current flatter lie of the R15 to be adjusted to a more upright angle for taller golfers, that visually need to see a more upright angled head. This setting also helps golfers that need a neutral/square face angle but need to create more draw on their shots. There are notches between the different settings which are the incremental changes towards that setting. So for instance if you want the head to be a little UPRIGHT and a little LOWER flighted – then position the hosel at the notch between the two settings. As the hosel affects the head angle and in turn the ball flight, coordinating the right shaft flex, tip and specifically the correct torque of the shaft is very important.
The way the head turns or releases through impact are controlled with the help of torque. As a rough guide if you need less movement or a firmer feel use a low torque and if you need a more active feel go for a higher torque. The sliding weights on the sole are not as effective for influencing the left to right (Fade) or right to left (Draw) spin axis on the ball. They are actually better suited to increase speed and lower spin on the ball. From our testing the weights should be placed each side of where you hit the ball on the face. Capture where your strikes are on the face using face tape or spray and then split the weights and align them so they sit each side of the strike marks (even if they are off-centre). Do this, and watch the ball speed increase and the stability of the clubhead improve.
This might sound simple but there are Right and Left sleeves. Make sure your sleeve is a R/H one if you are right handed and a L/H one if you are left handed. It’s printed on the sleeve with a simple R/H and L/H so you can check. What can you do to get the BEST from the R15? The bottom line is that the driver is really well designed and is made to be tweaked to suit you. So get your wrench out and use this guide to test some of the different settings and work out what will suit you and your ball flight best. I had tried for the past 4 to 6 years to replace an old brass headed putter and it was beginning to drive me crazy. I was recommended by a friend who knew Derek and I booked a 30 mins putter fitting. I brought along 3 of the many putters I had bought and was using depending on which one let me down the least on any given month. The set up and team are great I was taken straight in and told to putt away.
I was told I have a straight putting path and all 3 of the putters I brought along were toe heavy putters and all bar one were far to long. I am 5ft 6in tall and was shown that I struggled to get my eye line within 5 inches above the ball path. Two of the putters I was fitted for by a well known retailer. At foregolf I was given a series of putters to see what I liked to try and balance it with what I needed. Such a great experience and I left realising I wasn't mad the last few years struggling from 4 ft. My weight and roll were really good according to the data so once I had the right club put in my hand it felt great.
This is a REAL fitting center and until you experience the data and the method of fitting I don't think you can appreciate it. Regarding cost I am currently waiting on my less than 250 euros odyssey putter from foregolf which will replace the putters I had previously bought, one of which was a scotty which cost over 350 euros so that puts it all into perspective. I loved it, so thanks a million I can't wait to beat old scoresJohn.
4.7/5 stars Pros and Cons of the TaylorMade R15 Driver The launch date of the TaylorMade R15 was late 2014. What a difference two years makes when it comes to ideology in the industry.
The R15, like its predecessors in the R series, went to great lengths to move the CG (Center of Gravity) lower and forward in the clubhead. Today, the CG is lower, but manufacturers are trying to move it as far BACK as they can. Driving this shift in ideology is today’s golf balls. They are designed to have lower spin rates, especially for the drivers. A golf ball struck with a higher launch angle combined with less spin, will give increased overall distance.
Let’s take a look at some of the features of the R15 that, although markedly different from current product, still have loyal TaylorMade customers buying this driver some two years later. Not as forgiving. Adjustability needs some dedication to detail. Too much spin imparted on the ball. Lower launch angle is hard to control directionally Who is it for? This driver is not for high handicap players. If this is you, look for a more forgiving driver. However, in the hands of a good ball striker, the R15 can and will give added distance and a degree of workability not seen from TaylorMade in the past.
