Dell 2950 Drivers For Mac
Posted : admin On 26.02.2020I attempted to do a rolling upgrade of a 6.5 pool to 7.0. During the install screen I briefly noticed a 'RTNETLINK Device or resource busy' message but didn't pay much attention to it. After the install the server booted fine, however the onboard NIC bond was listed as 'Not Connected' even though both ethernet cables were physically connected. The Link Status LEDs on both NICs were constantly blinking Green. The activity LEDs were off. The MTU on this bond is the default 1500.
The hardware is a Dell PowerEdge 1950 II with NetXtreme II BCM5708 Gigabit Ethernet onboard. I tried an emergency network reset and even then both onboard NICs had the flashing LED but both eth0 and eth1 had a status of DOWN in the OS. I had to revert back to the 6.5 install from the backup, since although this isn't a production pool, I did need it to be back online. Any idea what would be the cause?
I've installed CentOS 7 on this model server before without issues. The BCM5708 is a PCI-X version of the Netxtreme II, so that means the server is very old and maybe the PCI-X versions are not supported anymore. I do know that the BCM5709 Nextreme II PCI-e version is working with XenServer 7.0 The strange part is that the bnx2 driver normally supports both the BCM5708 and 5709. Can you post the output of the 'dmesg' command just after booting Xenserver 7.0. That might give us a hint on what is going on. If the driver included with XenServer 7.0 is not working with the BCM5708 you can try to donwload the BCM5708/5709 driver from Qlogic and compile the driver for XenServer 7.0 with the DDK. You can download the driver here.

Unplugging and replugging the cable does not add any new messages so it isn't being detected. So the dmesg shows that the bnx2 driver of XenServer 7.0 does try to work with the BCM5708 cards, that is interesting. I would first try to do exactly what the error suggests and update the BIOS/UEFI of the server and the firmware of the NIC's. If that doesn't solve the problem you could try this workaround, but I have no idea if that will work, but its easier to try then compiling a driver: Add the following to /etc/modprobe.d/slowdown: install bnx2 /bin/sleep 5 && /sbin/modprobe -ignore-install bnx2 And if that doesn't work try compiling the Qlogic driver, but that might be exactly the same version that is included with XenServer 7.0 and if that is the case I wouldn't even try compiling as its a lot of work. I have the same Problem with a Power Edge 2950. With 6.5, the hardware works fine but with 7.0 gets the system is no network connection.:-( Had three 2950's upgrade today.
1 worked flawlessly and automatically had the 7.10.18 firmware. The other two still report bc 2.9.1 firmware. Really strange and has left two systems un-usable for the moment.
When trying to upgrade with the file from dell's site, I receive the following error: Running validation. This Update Package is not compatible with your system configuration. I'll edit the post if I figure something out. I installed the following update It works! Sorry if this double posts. The forum did something odd when I tried to edit. Had three 2950's upgrade today.
